New Zealand will be one of many countries around the world collaborating in a second exhibition organised by the American Society of Botanical Artists (ASBA). This worldwide event will again bring together artists, institutions and the public tohighlight the role contemporary botanical artists play in bringing attention to theneed of safe-guarding our botanical diversity.
GOALS
• To link the world’s people with plants through botanical art
• To build partnerships between artists, institutions, scientists and the public
• To increase appreciation and understanding of the world’s precious plant diversity
• To acknowledge and build upon the increasing connections between botanical artists worldwide
DESCRIPTION
This collaborative exhibition will be held simultaneously in more than 28 countries with May18th 2025 being ‘Worldwide Day of Botanical Art’.
Participating countries will curate their own exhibition and provide a digital slideshow of up to forty works, to be compiled with all other countries’ images. This will be shown at each venue on May18th, ‘Worldwide Day of Botanical Art’.
New Zealand’s exhibition will be held in conjunction with the Botanical Art Society of New Zealand (BASNZ) and the Auckland Botanic Gardens, with support from Friends of the Auckland Botanic Gardens Inc., travelling to Wellington and Ashburton before arriving back in Auckland in December 2025.
This will be a juried show which will ensure that we have the highest quality of botanical art New Zealand has to offer at this time.
GENERAL INFORMATION
THEME
The theme for this exhibition is ‘Crop Diversity’ https://www.botanicalartnz.org/theme

We hope artists will consider linking their plant choices to Matariki and Rongoa.
ELIGIBILITY
Open to NZ residents and all New Zealand citizens living abroad.
EXHIBITION DATES AND VENUES
Auckland Botanic Gardens - 29th March - 29th June 2025
Wellington Botanic Gardens - 1st August - 30th September 2025
Ashburton Art Gallery - 18th October - 7th December 2025
ARTWORK ACCEPTED FOR SUBMISSION
2D original works of NZ native or exotic plants relevant to the theme, created 2023 and later.
No photography, no digitally generated work and no 3D work.
All artworks must be for sale with a 25% commission taken (Split between BASNZ, The Friends and the venue who negotiated the sale).
All works submitted must be your own work, not produced in a tutored class or following online tutorials.
MEDIUMS
All wet and dry mediums such as, but not limited to watercolour, graphite, acrylic, gouache, oils and dry pastels or a combination of mediums will be accepted.
SIZE
There are no size restrictions.
SUBMISSION FEE
There will be a fee of NZ$35 for first artwork, NZ$10 for each additional artworks, total maximum of 3 submitted per artist.

We are delighted to have a very experienced team of jurors to curate our exhibition.

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR ENTRY
There are 4 ways to submit your entry form:
• Online
Please use the online form - preferred or download and print the form, fill in, scan and email with your image files to baww25nz@gmail.com with
your name in the subject line
• Postal
Download and print the form, fill in and post, with a named CD or USB stick of your images to: BAWW 25, Attn: Liz Powell, Auckland Botanic Gardens,
102 Hill Road, Auckland 2105
or
• In Person
Put your filled in submission form and named CD or USB stick in an envelope marked BAWW 25 Attn: Liz Powell to the Auckland Botanic Gardens and hand into the Visitors Centre at Auckland Botanic Gardens.
Entry forms can also be picked up from the visitors centre at the Auckland Botanic Gardens visitor centre when submissions open on 1st September.
If any of your artworks are selected, an artist contract and other information regarding framing, delivery etc. will be emailed out to you.
CATALOGUE/PAMPHLET
With appropriate funding a pamphlet/catalogue will be prepared of accepted art works using the submission images provided.

IMAGES FOR SUBMISSION
• JPEG files only accepted
• Size - at least 300dpi x 25cms high
• Individual files must be labelled with the artist’s name, Genus/species and image title exactly as written on your submission form
• No frames or matting should be seen in the submitted images
• No signature to be visible to ensure fair jury process
• If submitting on CD or USB stick, the CD or USB stick must also be labelled with artist’s name and image file information. CDs and USB sticks will not be returned
FEES
NZ$35 for the first submission and NZ$10 for each additional submission, max of 3 entries.
If your payment is not showing in our account by the end of Monday 25th November your entry will not be accepted.
Fees are non-refundable.

JURY SELECTION
The jurors will be looking for botanical accuracy as well as good technique and composition.
The jurors’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
NOTIFICATION OF JURY DECISION
Acceptances and regrets will be sent via email between 5th and 8th December 2024.
If one or more of your artworks are accepted, you will be notified initially by email.
An entry form and other information regarding framing, delivery etc will be posted out to you.
Accepted artists will be able to sell cards and prints of exhibited works with 25% commission taken.
PUBLICITY AND PAMPHLET
With appropriate funding a pamphlet/catalogue will be prepared using the submission images provided.
If additional pre-publication work is required on any artist’s files a fee of NZ$75 will be levied to that artist.
Images of accepted submissions may be used in promotional, educational and/or interpretive materials before, during and after the exhibition.
OWNERSHIP, RISK, HANDLING AND INSURANCE
The Auckland Botanic Gardens Inc and its representatives will endeavour to take all care when handling and displaying artworks. However, the Auckland Botanic Gardens do not take responsibility for any loss and/or damage to the artwork whatsoever, from its delivery onwards up to and including collection by the Artist or buyer at the end of the Exhibition.
Therefore:
• The Artist is advised to take out their own insurance
• The artworks remain the property of and at the risk of the Artist up to and including collection by the Artist or buyer at the end of the Exhibition, including any touring of the exhibition
HANGING RIGHTS
The committee retains the right to refuse to hang works if framing is inadequate or if quality of artwork differs greatly from that represented by the submission file.
TOURING THE EXHIBITION
All selected artworks must be available for extended showing throughout the country.
